A 25-year-old Cherokee woman named Aubrey Dameron went missing in the spring of 2019. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office has identified a body recovered last week as Dameron.

Nearly six years ago, Aubrey Dameron was last seen at her house in Grove, Oklahoma, on the Cherokee Nation reservation. Since then, her family has sought answers.

Multiple agencies, including local law enforcement and the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, have assisted in her case, especially in the wake of the landmark McGirt decision.

Dameron identified as a trans woman and acted as a support system for her relative, Christian Fencer. Both Fencer and Dameron’s aunt, Pam Smith, helped lead efforts to bring their loved one home. Now they have answers.

The remains of Dameron were discovered in a rural area in northeast Oklahoma located in Ottawa County. She would’ve been 31 years old.
